Camper Malopolski: Romans enchanted with Cracow’s garlands / Krakowskie wianki oczarowały Rzymian

Every year, the evening of June 23, St John's Eve (Noc Świętojańska), is the eve of celebration the old Slavic tradition. During the Kupala Night, as the celebration used to be called, the young women wear crowns fashioned from wild flowers (wianki), which are later thrown into a nearby river.

This year not only Polish decided to trust to customs. With great curiosity and excitement, Romans dressed in white, flock into the Tiber’s bank… and let themselves follow the tradition. Girls were making garlands of flowers and leaves, which later they floated on the Tiber river. According to traditional believes young women would attempt to gain foresight into their relationship fortunes from the flow patterns of the flowers on the river. Men may attempt to capture the garlands, in the hope of capturing the interest of the woman who floated the garland.

The celebration started when the Sun was just behind the Cavour bridge. The guest started to arrive: Italians who were eager to discover new traditions, and Polish who wanted to remind themselves old customs and to feel Slavic atmosphere once again. Polish accent could not be missed also thanks to local products tasting brought straight from Malopolska region. There were famous goodies as kiełbasa Lisiecka (Lisiecka sausage), kabanos (long thin dry sausage made of pork), pasztet (pâté), oscypek (smoked cheese made of salted sheep milk exclusively in the Tatra Mountains) and rydykołki (known as the "younger sister" of the oscypek cheese) and cranberry, juicy apples from Łącko town, cookies and different kinds of cakes. The local mineral water “Muszynianka” from Muszyna town, beer “Krakauer” and Maurer’s juices and wines (gooseberry, wild rose, rhubarb and plumb wine) were not missed.

After official welcoming and degustation of regional delicacies, the concert took place on the barge’s top floor. During the concert the Kupała’s suit set off, which at the same time was a sign for guest to follow it to the bank of river and float the garlands of flowers in the Tiber.

Obviously the Camper Malopolski was at Tiber’s bank all the time. Camper, which we parked just in front to the barge’s main entrance, was inviting Romans to come to “Wianki (garlandd) at the Tiber” event. When the celebration was over people were saying that this kind of Polish traditions should be held every year in Rome!

Co roku, w okolicach 23/24 czerwca, wypada stare słowiańskie święto. Podczas Nocy świętojańskiej panny rzucają wianki na wodę i wróżą swoją przyszłość. W tym roku nie tylko krakowianki postanowiły zawierzyć tradycji. Z wielką ciekawością i podekscytowaniem, ubrane w białe kreacje Rzymianki przybyły nad Tybr… i dały się ponieść tradycji. Plotły wianki ze świeżych liści i kwiatów, chętnie ubierały na głowy piękne wieńce, które przyjechały prosto z Krakowa.

A wszystko zaczęło się gdy słońce grzejąc jeszcze mocno zawisnęło nad Mostem Cavour. Na ogromnej barce zaczęli pojawiać się goście, Włosi głodni nowych doznań oraz Polacy chcący przypomnieć sobie stare zwyczaje i poczuć słowiańską atmosferę. A polskość nie dała o sobie zapomnieć również dzięki degustacji produktów regionalnych z Małopolski. Na stole pojawiły się znane smakołyki jak kiełbasa Lisiecka, kabanosy, pasztety, oscypki i redykołki z żurawiną, jabłka z Łącka i ciasteczka „Wyśmienite” oraz różnego rodzaju ciasta. Nie zabrakło też wody mineralnej „Muszynianka”, piwa „Krakauer” oraz wytworów Maurera – soków i win. Po oficjalnym powitaniu i regionalnej degustacji, na górnej części barki odbył się koncert, w czasie którego ruszył orszak Kupały. Dał on znak, że czas rzucić swój los na wodę… by wianki popłynęły Tybrem.

Oczywiście wszystkim tym wydarzeniom nie mógł nie towarzyszyć Małopolski Camper! Zaparkowany tuż przy zejściu nad barkę zapraszał Rzymian do przybycia na Wianki, które jak to wspólnie okrzyknięto – powinny się w Rzymie odbywać przynajmniej raz w roku! Podczas oficjalnego rozpoczęcia Wianków Daria, reprezentantka załogi Campera Małopolskiego, przedstawiła gościom projekt Małopolskiego Campera promującego nasz region w różnych zakątkach Europy. Daria wraz z włoskim dziennikarzem i prezenterem radiowym Maurizio Di Maggio zadawali podchwytliwe pytania gościom imprezy, którzy za swoją odwagę i wiedzę zostali udekorowani małopolskimi koralami.

Wieczór prowadził znany włoski dziennikarz i prezenter radiowy Maurizio Di Maggio.

Daria Głownia, our Camper's representative, spoke about Malopolska's tourist attractions and presented Camper Malopolski's project / Daria Głownia, reprezentantka naszego Campera, opowiedziała o małopolskich atrakcjach turystycznych i przedstawiła gościom projekt "Małopolskim Koralem przez Europę"

Joanna Słowińska and AKT presented music inspired by Polish and Slavic traditional sounds / Joanna Słowińska i zespoł AKT zaprezentowali repertuar folkowy, inspirowany polską i słowiańską muzyką tradycyjną.
